A dedicated midrange speaker helps reproduce vocals, dialogue and other important middle-frequency content with greater control and clarity.

It is commonly used in multi-driver audio systems where a woofer or midbass driver handles lower frequencies and a tweeter handles higher frequencies. By assigning the middle-frequency range to a dedicated driver, the system can achieve clearer vocals, higher output and a more controlled transition between the low- and high-frequency sections.

The final performance does not come from the midrange driver alone. Cone material, suspension, voice coil, magnetic circuit, enclosure, grille, crossover and the adjoining speaker drivers all influence the usable result.

A full-range speaker is designed to reproduce a broader usable frequency range and may operate as the only driver in a compact product. A midrange speaker focuses mainly on vocal and middle-frequency content and is normally used as part of a multi-driver audio system.
